Whitney Tilson's Stock Picks
Value investor and portfolio manager Whitney Tilson has the hot hand. After producing a whopping +25.7% return in his Tilson Focus Fund (TILFX) in 2006, I expect that his outperformance will continue. His goal, like any value-focused investor, is to buy stocks that are trading substantially below what they think they are worth. Value is always in the eye of the beholder, but some eyes are better than others.
As someone who relies a great deal on stock screens for investment candidates, Tilson is one of those portfolio managers I do try to keep tabs on. I do this not only to see what stocks he is buying and selling, but also to confirm candidates I'm seeing in my value-focused, long-term stock screens. According to Morningstar, here are the fund's top 25 holdings:
